Bara – Roses

The rose (バラ) is one of the most popular flowers in the world. It has been cultivated by man since ancient times. The first rose grew in Asian gardens 5,000 years ago. Japan is a region where many wild roses, which are the original species, are found.

Roses belong to the Rosaceae family, with over 100 species and thousands of varieties, hybrids and cultivars. The leaves are simple, divided into 5 or 7 lobes with scalloped edges. The fruits are small, usually red, sometimes edible.

Flowers, in particular, underwent modifications through crosses carried out over the centuries to acquire their best-known characteristics. Today, cultivated roses are available in a wide variety of forms, both vegetative and floral.
