Toyoake

Toyoake City │ 豊 明 市

Toyoake (豊 明 市) is a town located just west of central Aichi Prefecture and is in the southern part of Nagoya City. Toyoake area is 23.22 square kilometers and is the 30th city in Aichi Prefecture. With a population of 69.066 inhab., including about 2.535 foreign citizens, 955 Brazilians, 425 Chinese, 369 Philippines and others (data from City Hall).

The area of modern Toyoake was part of Owari Province and was the site of many battles during the Sengoku period. It was part of the properties of the Owari Domain in the Edo period, in the Tokugawa Shogunate. Toyoake became a village in January 1951 and was elevated to city status on August 1, 1972.

The city has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and relatively mild winters. September is considered the wettest month. Temperatures are highest in August at around 28°C, and the lowest in January at around 4°C.
