Yatomi City │ 弥 富 市

Yatomi (弥 富 市) is a town located on the coastal plains of the extreme west of Aichi Prefecture and 20 kilometers from Nagoya. The Yatomi area is 48.28 square kilometers. With a population of 44.427 inhab., including about 1.370 foreign citizens, of which approximately 418 are Brazilians (City Hall data).

The name of the Yatomi area appears in documents from the Kamakura period, as part of the former province of Owari. Yatomi was proclaimed village in August 1903. Later the village of Yatomi and Nabeta, the southeastern part of Emura city, is merged in 1955 and becomes Yatomi-cho. Yatomi-cho and 14 mountain villages are merged on April 1, 2006 and become Yatomi City by enforcement of municipal organization.

The city has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and relatively mild winters. September is considered the wettest month. Temperatures are highest in August reaching 28°C, and lowest in January at around 4°C.
