Kariya City │ 刈谷市

Kariya (刈谷市) is a Japanese city located in Aichi Prefecture and faces the Aisumagawa River, which flows into Kinuura Bay, in the western part of the Nishimikawa Plain. With a population of 153.229 inhabitants, including about 5.129 foreign nationals, 821 Brazilians, 67 Peruvians, 1.124 Philippines, 984 Chinese, 389 Vietnam, 299 Koreans and others (prefecture data).

The city has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and relatively mild winters. September is the wettest month. Temperatures are highest in August at around 27.9°C, and lowest in January at around 4.4°C.

Kariya City began to take urban form after Tadamasa Mizuno built Kariya Castle in 1952 (1533).

In April 1945, the city system was imposed as the 11th city in the municipality, with a population of 30,868. In April 1955, a part of Isami Village in Bihai District and Fuji Matsu Village were merged to become the current city area.

Since then, with economic growth and motorization progress, the city has made rapid progress as a fast-paced city of rapid progress. We secure an important position as a central city in Aichi Prefecture. Kariya’s economy is dominated by companies related to the Toyota Group, including Toyota Industries Corporation, Aisin Seiki, and Denso Corporation.
