Culture

Japanese culture is ancient and enchants people from all over the world. In Brazil, in particular, this adoration for the Land of the Rising Sun is even greater, because we have the largest Japanese community outside Japan.

The culture of Japan has evolved greatly over time, from the culture of the original Jomon country to its contemporary hybrid culture, which combines influences from Brazil, Europe and North America. Japanese culture is the result of several waves of immigration from the Asian mainland and the Pacific Islands, followed by a strong cultural influence from China and then a long period of relative isolation from the rest of the world under the Tokugawa Shogunate until the arrival from the black ships of the Meiji Era until the end of the 19th century, when it receives a huge foreign cultural influence, which becomes even stronger after the end of the Second World War. As a result, a distinctly different culture from the rest of Asia developed, and remnants of this still exist in contemporary Japan.

Despite these influences, Japan generated a unique style of arts (ikebana, origami, ukiyo-e), craft techniques (dolls, lacquered objects, ceramics), spectacle (dance, kabuki, noh, raku-go, Yosakoi, Bunraku), music (Sankyoku, Joruri and Taiko) and traditions (games, onsen, sento, tea ceremony), as well as unique cuisine.
