Drone rescue training in Toyota City to search for people who get hurt or lost climbing or hiking in mountains

Japan Guide 2023/09/20

Before the autumn tourist season, a rescue training exercise using a drone was held in Toyota City on the 20th, simulating a fall accident involving a person or climber.

It was based on a person slipping while climbing alone, and involved the participation of around 50 people, including police officers and firefighters.

During training, firefighters flew a drone to conduct aerial searches of the crash site and displayed images from the drone on a monitor.

The drone has a thermography function and can also speak through speakers, with the help of the drone the police officers searched the mountain and rescued the climbers based on the images.

According to the police, there have been cases of people getting lost or falling while hiking in the mountains, which is why the police asked people not to climb the mountain alone and to always carry a means of communication.
