Hamamatsu City │ 浜松市
Hamamatsu (浜松市) is a Japanese city located in Shizuoka Prefecture and received city status in July 1911.
The population of Nikkei foreigners grew after the change in Japanese immigration law that allowed them to work in Japan. Since 1990, the number of foreigners has grown a lot, but after 2008 the population of foreigners dropped dramatically due to the global crisis, with the government of Hamamatsu having to offer help for some foreigners to return to their countries of origin.
Hamamatsu had almost 20 thousand Brazilians, where several Brazilian supermarkets and schools began to appear.
Hamamatsu has a humid subtropical climate with cool to mild winters and almost no snow, however it is windy in winter due to the dry monsoon called Enshū no Karakaze, something unique in the region. September is the rainiest month. Temperatures are highest in August, reaching around 39.5°C, and the lowest in January, reaching -6°C.
The city is an important industrial center, home to several companies such as Honda, Yamaha and Kawai Pianos, as well as several factories such as Sony and Panasonic. Hamamatsu is well known for the automotive parts and musical instruments, among other things, that are produced here.
