Population

The population of Hashima is 67,512 inhabitants, including about 1,036 foreign citizens, 20 Brazilians, 412 Chinese, 107 Koreans, 245 Vietnam 116 Philippines and others (City Hall data).

Hashima City │ 羽島市

Hashima (羽島市) is a Japanese city located in the southern part of Gifu Prefecture surrounded by the Kiryu Kiso rivers with a total area of 53.66 square kilometers.

 

In July 1889, with the establishment of the modern township system, the city of Takenohana was created. And in April 1954 Takenohana merged with nine neighboring villages to form the city of Hashima.

 

The city has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and mild winters. September is considered the wettest month. Temperatures are highest in August reaching 28°C, and the lowest in January reaching 4°C.
