Health benefits of Kiwi

The Kiwi (キウイ) with its sour touch and peculiar look has been conquering more and more foreign fans. In recent years consumption has increased by 50%.

One of the fruit’s main virtues is its high load of antioxidants, substances that fight damage and premature aging of cells, a phenomenon associated with a list of evils ranging from cardiovascular disease to cancer. And kiwi is a great source of Vitamin C, E, B6, niacin, potassium, magnesium, copper, phosphate and dietary fiber, has fat and no cholesterol content.

And it still has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer and laxative effects.

Studies show that kiwi fibers have a great capacity to retain water, helping the formation of fecal matter and balancing intestinal transit, so for those who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, a disorder marked by abdominal pain, diarrhea, the fruit should be included in your food.

The biggest Kiwi products in Japan are in Ehime Prefecture (25%), Fukuoka (16%), Wakayama (11%), Kanagawa (7%) and Shizuoka (7%).

Types of Kiwi

Green Kiwi

The gold kiwi is slightly more expensive than the green one and, as the name suggests, it has a yellowish pulp. Its taste is sweeter and its vitamin C content is higher.
