Higashi Mikawa Furusato Park is an urban park in Aichi Prefecture, located in the city of Toyokawa. This expansive park stretches across a small mountain, making it a pleasant place for a stroll.
The park opened on March 25, 2006, and was designed and inspired by the local landscape of the former postal town of “Miyujuku” in the Tokaido region.
The park is popular with many tourists because it has three plazas with playgrounds, large slides and other equipment, as well as an azalea garden, a wildflower garden and much more, allowing interaction with nature.
Making the most of the ample space, the park has been equipped with a “Shukei Garden” depicting the vast Mikawa Bay, the Toyo River and the Mikawa Mountains, as well as the “Mikawa Folk Valley”, which depicts the surrounding rural landscape.
Each zone has restrooms and vending machines, and the garden paths are well-maintained so you can enjoy the park to the fullest; use is free.
Landscaped Garden
This Japanese garden was completed in 2006 as part of Higashi Mikawa Furusato Park. The garden’s design expresses the grandeur of Mikawa Bay, the landscape of Takeshima, the white sand and green pines, the course of the Toyokawa River, and the Mikawa Mountains.
There is a red bridge that leads to the small island in the center of the lake, and going up the boardwalk, you reach a small observation platform called Rokkakudo, from where you can contemplate the entire layout of the garden.

Playground and Picnic Area
The grassy area was inspired by the terraced fields of a rural landscape and features a large playground equipped with net toys and slides called Akafuji, making it the perfect place for a stroll or a picnic.
Azalea Panoramic Garden / Tsutsuji-en Observatory
The Azalea Garden is located in Toyama, at the highest peak of the park (194.4 m above sea level), where you can admire a variety of colorful azaleas, including Kirishima azaleas, and at the top there is also a lookout point.
The azalea season begins in late April and lasts until mid-May.
From the Tsutsuji-en viewpoint, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mikawa Bay and the Toyokawa cityscape.
