Kindergartens in Japan

Kindergarten (youchien) is an educational establishment for children aged 3 years up to the age of enrollment in primary school.

There are three types of establishments for children:

  • Kindergartens
  • Day care
  • Children’s Establishment

Kindergartens, enrollment requirements and fees vary by facility, check with your county’s kindergarten.

Children in this range acquire knowledge through practice and not through theoretical exposure. Therefore, early childhood education seeks to develop the ability of communication, reasoning and expression through games and games.

Typically, children spend about 4 hours a day in kindergarten. Some establishments accept childcare until late afternoon or evening, while parents or guardians work.
