The Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport Observation Deck is designed on the east side of the airport to observe planes taking off and landing and Mount Fuji. In addition, there are restaurants and shops selling local products.
Construction of the Observation Deck began in September 2011 and was completed in February 2013. It rises 10 meters above ground level and is supported by a steel structure. Its innovative circular design embodies the spirit of Zen, warmly welcoming visitors and emphasizing harmony with the vast natural area surrounding the airport.
The observation deck features a glass-enclosed seating area, fully heated in winter, and a cafeteria serving tea and coffee. Tea and coffee are offered free of charge on weekends and holidays.
The airport opened on June 4, 2009, and operates domestic flights to Sapporo, Izumo, Fukuoka, Okinawa, Komatsu, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima, as well as international flights to Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, Wuhan, Ningbo, and Hangzhou.
The observatory is open from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM. At night, it’s not only a great place to spot planes, but also a peaceful and romantic space.
