Shinshiro City
Shinshiro (新 城市) is a city located in Aichi Prefecture, much of the northern and eastern part of the city area is covered by mountains and forests, and most of it is within the boundaries of Aichi Kōgen National Park.
With a population of 44.533 inhab., including about 1.005 foreign citizens, 356 Brazilians, 29 Peruvians, 2 Argentina, 5 Americans, 232 Vietnam, 148 Philippines, 119 Chinese, 21 Koreans, 36 Indonesia, 30 Nepal, 1 Sri Lanka and others (City Hall data).).
The city has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and relatively mild winters. September is considered the wettest month. Temperatures are highest in August at around 27°C, and the lowest in January at around 5°C.
In the Meiji period the city of Shinshiro was part of the Minamishitara district, it was proclaimed as a district in October 1889 with the establishment of the modern municipal system. The city area expanded with the annexation of neighboring villages in 1955 and 1956 and received city status in November 1958.
And in October 2005, the city of Hōrai and the village of Tsukude were merged into Shinshiro. Now Shinshiro covers the entire old district of Minamishitara.
