Sesshoseki – Stone of Death

Death Stone or Sessho seki (殺生石) is a stone located along the Yukawa slope in a volcanic area in Nasu City, Tochigi Prefecture.

It is a legendary historic site and known throughout the country, the stone is said to kill anyone who comes into contact with it, a large rock in a desolate place that smells of sulfur, in an area where toxic volcanic gases are generated.

History:

In Japanese mythology, stones are said to kill anyone who comes in contact with them. In Japan, large rocks and stones in areas where poisonous volcanic gas is generated are often called sesshoseki.

Latest News: It was reported on March 5, 2022 that the stone split into two parts.
