Two Peruvians arrested for attempting to smuggle 10 kilos of cocaine

Two Peruvians were arrested for trying to smuggle cocaine hidden in cakes. More than 10 kilos of cocaine were seized, the biggest seizure in 10 years.

The detained Peruvians were 41-year-old Nishijima Viavicencio Luis Alberto (ニシジマ・ヴィヤヴィセンシオ・ルイス・アルベルト), and another is a 36-year-old Zapata Juárez Nilo Jesús (ザパタ・フアレス・ニロ・ヘスス) company executive, from Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

According to Osaka Prefectural Police and Customs, the two allegedly tried to smuggle about 10 kilograms of cocaine (market value about 204.86 million yen) from Peru to Kansai airport in September this year.

The cocaine was hidden in packages of cakes and shampoo, and the amount seized at once by Osaka Customs is the highest in 10 years.

In response to the investigation, Defendant Nishijima admitted to the crime, and Defendant Zapata denied it.
