The renewal request can be made 2 months before the expiration of the expiration period.
You do not need to pay to renew the visa, you can go to the Immigration Department in your Jurisdiction and apply for the visa in person. In case any documents are missing, they will send a letter asking for it, so always try to apply in advance, before the visa expires.
Documents needed to renew NISSEI visa
- Copy and original of valid passport
- Copy and original of Zairyu Card
- Birth certificate (copy)
- If married, marriage certificate (copy)
- Birth certificate of the parent who is a Nisei descendant (copy)
- Grandparents’ marriage certificate (copy)
- Grandfather’s or grandmother’s Koseki Tohon (original and valid for 3 months)
- Hoshonin form (guarantor)
- Work Certificate (Zaishoku Shomeisho), issued by the company
- Residence certificate (Juminhyo), issued by the City Hall
- Gensen (proof of annual income) or last three original Payslips
- Nozeishomeisho (tax payment certificate), issued by the prefecture
