Overtime

Employees who work more than 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week have the right to receive overtime.

See the values in the table

Normal Schedule (8 hours a day or 40 hours a week) Zero
Extra hour25%
Night Hours (10:00 pm to 5:00 am)25%
Work on a day off (company calendar)25%
Overtime plus night time25% + 25%
I work on days off (company calendar) plus night shifts25% + 25%
Work on a day off (determined by law)35%
I work on days off (determined by law) plus night shifts35% + 25%

In Japan’s labor law, the days off determined by law are 4 days a month (houtei), I have no definition of days of the week, that is, these 4 days can be on weekends or weekdays. And if the employee works on any of these 4 days, the company must pay an additional 35% (overtime). And there are also days off determined by the company (company calendar), called shoutei.

If the company has a daily working schedule of less than 8 hours per day, that is, 4 hours per day, and there is a need to work two or four more hours, up to the limit of 8 hours per day, the company is not obliged to pay the excess hours as overtime, only if the working day exceeds 8 hours per day.
