Abe died in hospital in Nara, where he was being treated after being shot in a street around 11:30 am on Friday.
Former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, 67, was participating in the election campaign for the House of Representatives in Nara, when he started his speech in support of the local candidates of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD) he was shot by the coast.
The police arrested Yamagami Tetsuya (山上徹也), a 41-year-old resident of Nara city, he was caught by security and handed over to the police.
