Kushimoto (串 本 町), is a coastal city located in Higashimuro District, Wakayama Province in western Japan.
Due to its location on the Kii Peninsula, and the path of many typhoons and wet Kuroshio Current winds, Kushimoto has a very humid climate, with September being the wettest month. The highest temperatures in Kushimoto are between July and August, reaching almost 37°C, and the lowest in December around -2°C.
The ancient city of Kushimoto was once part of the Nishimuro district, but the city has strong ties to the city of Shingu and the district of Higashimuro, for political and economic reasons. So, with this merger the city became part of the Higashimuro district. In April 2005, Kushimoto incorporated Koza City from Higashimuro District to become the new city of Kushimoto.
