Fujinomiya City │ 富士宮市

Fujinomiya (富士宮市) is a Japanese city located in the province of Shizuoka, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Fuji. The city grew up around the Fujinomiya Sengen Shrine, the most prominent and important shrine in the region, which is also the traditional starting point for climbing Mount Fuji, as it is the shortest and most popular route to climb Mount Fuji.

Fujinomiya received city status in June 1942 with the merger of the city of Omiya and the neighboring village of Fujioka. The city expanded by annexing the neighboring village of Fujine in 1955 and the villages of Kitayama, Shiraito, Kamiide and Ueno in 1956. In March 2010, the city of Shibakawa was merged into Fujinomiya.

Fujinomiya is also home to Shiraito Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan. The waterfalls are located on the outskirts of the city, along the way to the Fuji Five Lakes region on the northern side of the mountain.

Fujinomiya has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and relatively mild winters. September is the rainiest month. Temperatures are highest in August, reaching around 26°C, and the lowest in January, reaching 4°C.
