Child-rearing allowance

This system offers financial assistance to single-parent families (mother-child, father-child, etc.) raising children under 18 years of age (until the end of the fiscal year in which they turn 18) (or under 20 years of age if they have certain disabilities) and who meet the following eligibility requirements.

│Eligibility Requirements

Parents and guardians who reside in the city and have custody of children who meet the following requirements.

  • Children whose parents have dissolved their marriage.
  • Children whose father or mother has died.
  • Children whose father or mother has a serious disability.
  • Children whose father or mother’s whereabouts are unknown.
  • A child who has been abandoned by their father or mother for more than one year.
  • A child whose father or mother has received a protection order under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act.
  • A child whose father or mother has been imprisoned for more than one year.
  • A child born to a single mother.
  • Children whose parents are unknown, such as abandoned children.

│Amount of the monthly allowance

  • First child: Total cost of 46,690 yen, payable in installments of 11,010 yen according to income.
  • Additional cost for the second and subsequent children: 11,030 yen per child / payable in installments of 5,520 yen.

│Payment method

After approval from the city hall, the equivalent of two months’ worth of benefits will be paid into your preferred bank account, starting the month after you submitted your application (approval request), every year in the following months:

  • January (value for November and December)
  • March (value for January and February)
  • May (value for March and April)
  • July (value for May and June)
  • September (value for July and August)
  • November (value for September and October)
