Mori District │ 森町

The Mori Mountain area is connected to the southern end of the Akaishi Mountain range of the Southern Alps, and the Satoyama area at the foot of the mountains maintains a nostalgic and original Japanese landscape. Blessed with such rich nature and a warm climate, there is a wide variety of special products such as tea, corn, Jiro persimmon, melon and lettuce.

Mori has been known since the Kamakura period as the site of the Okuni Shrine and a pilgrimage destination; in the Edo period it was largely tenryō territory under direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate.

With the establishment of the modern township system at the beginning of the Meiji period in 1889, the area was reorganized. From April 1, 1955 to 1956, the city area was expanded by annexing five neighboring villages (former Amagata Village, Mori City, Ichinomiya Village, Sonoda Village, and Iida Village).

The city has a climate characterized by hot and humid summers, with September being the rainiest month. Temperatures are highest in August, around 29°C, and lowest in January, around 4°C.
