Shitara is a town located in the Kitashitara District of Aichi Prefecture. Most of the town’s area is covered by mountains and forests, and part of it lies within the boundaries of the Tenryu-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park.
The city has a total area of 273.94 square kilometers, and its lush green mountains offer stunning views in all seasons of the year. The mountains feature several trails to explore, as well as camping areas and fishing spots.
On September 30, 1956, the village of Taguchi merged with the neighboring villages of Tammine, Nagura, and Furikusa to form the town. On the same day, the villages of Kamitsugu and Shimotsugu merged to form the village of Tsugu. The villages of Shitara and Tsugu merged on October 1, 2005.
