Wind Chime Festival

On the outskirts of Akiha Sohonden at Hattasan Soneiji Temple, from May to August, the Wind Chime Festival (風鈴 ま つ り) takes place in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka.

The festival is held every year so that everyone can enjoy the new summer tradition and experience the traditional temple culture.

If you listen carefully, you will hear the faint sound of wind chimes even before you pass through the gate. As you climb the stairs, you can see the colorful wind chimes swaying in response to the wind.

Approximately 2,000 colored wind chimes sway from the mountain gate to the main hall, when the wind blows, colored bells dance and vibrate in the wind.

Each Edo wind chime is handcrafted, so it is said that even if they have the same shape and pattern, they will make different sounds. In Karuizawa you can see the sky with umbrella (umbrella festival) and flowering hydrangea flowers (ajisai).
