Akatsukayama Park – Toyokawa City

Akatsukayama Park was inaugurated in July 1993 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the city of Toyokawa.

It is a free public park with various recreational areas, such as a playground, a mini zoo, a freshwater aquarium, as well as a multi-sports field and a large green lawn spread over a vast area of 25.1 hectares.

The Children’s Park “Wakuwaku” is full of recreational equipment for children, with colorful playgrounds, slides, and large sculptures of beetles and rhinoceroses.

There are five different slides, including spiral and wave-shaped slides, so that children of all ages can have fun.

Sukusuku Land is a recreation area for children under three years old. The space is fenced so that children can play safely. It is equipped with toys that encourage movements such as crawling, standing, and walking, suitable for child development.

And during the summer, there’s the “Water Square” where children can cool off playing in the water, and the place gets very lively with the kids having fun in the water.

The park features a mini zoo called “AniAni Maru“, where children can interact with and feed small animals such as ponies, rabbits, pigs, and goats.

The guinea pig breeding area is like a mansion, allowing children to see these adorable animals up close. And since 2023, pony rides have been available.

Gyogyo Land is a small, free aquarium showcasing fish and creatures that live in the Toyokawa River. It features over 100 types of fish, including fish and amphibians from the Toyokawa river system, as well as tropical fish from around the world.

There is a beautiful soccer field with artificial turf available for games, which can be rented and used from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

There is also the “Citizens’ Square,” a space that can be used for general events or sporting events, such as football games, among others. And when there is an event, temporary stalls from local restaurants are set up, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of food and drinks. It’s a perfect rest area to relax or take a short break.

And during the flowering season, the park offers the Plum Blossom Festival and the Iris Festival.

The Plum Blossom Festival covers 4,900 square meters, with 281 plum trees of 25 different varieties that bloom fully between mid-February and mid-March, producing red, white, and pink plums.

The Iris Festival takes place from the end of May, lasts about three weeks, and features an exhibition of approximately 100 varieties of iris and around 5,000 plants.
