Ryugu Sea Cave is a tourist attraction located in the Tago district of Shimoda City, at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula.
Once inside the cave, you can admire the crystal clear blue water and the beautiful yellowish layers on the cave walls through the soft natural light that enters through the skylights.

Ryugu Cave was created when part of the cave’s roof collapsed, creating a skylight about 50 meters in diameter. The skylight at Ryugu Cave is one of the largest in Izu, and you can climb and walk around it. There’s a path around it with several observation points from which you can observe and take photos of the cave’s interior. Looking into the cave, you can see a heart-shaped formation carved by sea erosion. This heart-shaped formation has attracted attention and is one of Izu’s most famous landmarks.

The cave walls are covered in beautiful layers of yellowish-brown volcanic debris erupted from an underwater volcano, and the contrast with the blue seawater filling the bottom of the skylight creates a mysterious place.

At night, you can enjoy the starry sky through the skylight.
