Police and fire departments, totaling 50 personnel, began the search using boats and divers, and continued until the man’s body was discovered approximately 200 meters south of the Hirado Bridge on the Yahagi River, shortly before 11:00 a.m. on the 15th.
At the time, a group of about 10 foreigners were having a barbecue, and one of them is believed to have drowned. Police are treating the incident as a drowning accident.
Police are working to confirm the identity of the man whose body was found.
Drownings occur every year in the river in Toyota City. The river may seem calm at first glance, but when it rains, it floods and becomes dangerous. The day before, the 13th, it was a rainy day, and the river was high. It seems that many foreigners are unaware of how dangerous this river is and that drownings occur every year.
