Ryugashido Cave (竜ヶ岩洞) is the largest tourist stalactite cave in the Tokai region which lies in the mountains northwest of Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka.

First discovered in the 1980s inside Ryugashi Mountain with an altitude of 359 meters, this limestone cave is believed to be over 250 million years old. The cave itself is huge, over 1,000 meters long, but only 400 meters is available to the general public. Although there are some very narrow passages, it is an attraction for all ages.

The Golden Waterfall, or Ogon no Taki in Japanese, is 30 meters high, making it one of the highest underground waterfalls in Japan.

The cave temperature is 18 degrees all year round, comfortable in all seasons.

At the end of the tour, there is a museum that shows the history of the cave.

You can relieve summer fatigue and heat in the naturally cool air and soaking your feet in the cool, calcium-rich waters at the free footbath spot called “Youkitadou”. If you sit on one of the benches and dip your feet into the cold water, you’ll feel so good you might not want to get up!

Open all year from 9 am to 5 pm.
