Shonai Ryokuchi Park (庄内緑地), is one of the largest green parks in Nagoya that utilizes the Odaii Reservoir on the Shonai River, a first-class river that runs through the city of Nagoya.
The park is a popular spot for summer picnics, and the large grassy areas host soccer matches among Nagoya’s foreign community and are home to the local team Shonai FC.
Green Lawn
Open space of about 3.5 hectares, used by many people for sports and picnics.









There are numerous hiking trails, fields, courts, a gymnasium, and an athletics stadium. There are also some marked trails around the park for 1.8-km or 2.3-km walks, but there are other options. For those who enjoy running, there are longer waterfront trails, which reach 9 km and lead to Daiko Park.
Fields / Courts
Field and Soccer: 400 meters of artificial turf are available. Used for soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and other sports, it is also used for major golf, soccer, marathon, and relay competitions.
Gateball Courts: One of Nagoya City’s main facilities, with 10 competition courts.
Tennis Courts: 6 courts available. Night lighting, a simple locker room, and restrooms are also available.
Gym: Equipped with a basketball court, ping pong tables and other facilities, with changing rooms and showers.
*Note: Change your shoes when entering the court. Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited on the courts.






Skate Court
Skate Area: Skateboards are available, as well as BMX (bar ends, poles and pedals made entirely of plastic) and roller skates.




Note: When using the area, be sure to wear protective gear, such as a helmet and ear protectors, to prevent accidents such as falls. Eating and drinking are prohibited in the skate area, and pets are not allowed.
Trails




In addition to activities like soccer and barbecues, visitors can enjoy pedal boat rides on the lake or rent a bike to cycle through the vast green space known as green square. This green space features a fountain, where you can cool off in the summer with the splashing water.
Pedal Boats
Pedal Boat: 10 pedal boats are available for use only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from April 1st to November 10th.



Bicycles
Bike Rental: The square offers free bikes. There are 150 bikes available, from children to adult sizes. You can use them for strolling in the park, cycling, or running. There are 1.8 km and 2.3 km of bike paths in the area.



Squares
Fountains: Between April and November, several fountains operate intermittently, from 10 am to 4 pm.





The park also has a children’s playground. There are plenty of children’s toys, especially those designed for spring. In summer, it’s the perfect place for kids to have fun.





Barbecue









Barbecue Zone A: The park offers barbecue grill rentals, as well as equipment and awnings. Reservations can be made by calling 090-9121-8929 (in Japanese only), from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Free Barbecue Zone B: This area is available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. If you bring your own barbecue equipment, ingredients, and other necessary items, there’s no need to contact us. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About the use of the barbecue area:
- Barbecues are only permitted in designated areas.
- Barbecuing outside of designated areas is prohibited.
- Barbecuing hours are only permitted from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Any action that could damage the facilities or cause accidents, such as the use of stakes or ropes to set up tarps or tents, is prohibited.
- Dangerous items such as alcohol, gas, and generators are prohibited.
- There are no areas for disposing of trash or charcoal. Take your trash home.
- Do not leave designated areas unattended and mark them with a tarp or mat. Do not reserve more space than necessary.
- Note: If an area is left unattended, items may be removed.
Dog Area: There are two dog facilities available, a large one of approximately 800 m² and a small one of 300 m².


With a rich and beautiful natural environment that is now a precious resource in urban areas, this park houses a valuable environment with seasonal flowers, such as rose and iris gardens, and a forest that attracts wild birds, cultivating a precious and abundant natural environment for the city.

Stove
Home to over 100 varieties of plants. There’s a herb garden on the second-floor rooftop garden.


Rapeseed Flower Festival「March/April」
The Rapeseed Flower Festival (Nanohana) is held in mid-March, when the park turns a yellow hue and bustles with visitors.





Cherry Blossom Festival「March/April」
The Cherry Blossom Festival is held from late March to early April, when the spring cherry blossoms are in bloom. The park has approximately 1,000 cherry trees, of which 700 are Yoshino cherry trees, 300 are Sato cherry trees, 25 are weeping cherry trees, and 25 are October cherry trees.






Iris Flower Festival「May/June」
It’s one of Nagoya’s premier iris gardens, with approximately 4 hectares of land planted with approximately 18,000 plants representing 95 iris species. From late May to mid-June, you can enjoy a rich variety of irises in a stunning setting.



Rose Festival「May/June」and「October/November」
The Rose Festival begins in mid-May in summer and ends in early June. It blooms again in October and continues through November, delighting visitors. Around 2,100 rose bushes of approximately 80 varieties bloom beautifully in the Western-style Garden.
